"For 6 weeks over the summer, Chicago Park District's Inferno Mobile Recording Studio sent four artists-in-residence to parks all across Chicago. The selected artists worked in a diverse array of disciplines, including experimental music, film, sound art, and performance, and are all extremely accomplished in their respective fields. In the parks, they led collaborations with and between young people and park patrons exploring music, field recording, therapeutic sound art, video, storytelling, digital media, and journalism."
This project allowed me to revisit my sampling roots by working with field samples collected by one of Inferno's lead artists, Ben Lamar Gay. This year, his residency project focused on the special recreational day camps and explored their unique relationship with sound. The sounds he collected were all created by the special recreation campers outdoors in various Chicago parks.
These five tracks were produced in four days and are an arrangement of my interpretation of their creations.
